Developers and tech creators get paid to post on X by taking sponsorships from dev-tool and AI companies: the brand pays a fixed fee for an honest post about its product, labelled as an ad. On Transformer you sign in with X (read-only), accept the offers you like, post in your own words with the link and #ad, and keep 80% once the post is verified.
Why do dev-tool companies sponsor developers?
Developers trust other developers more than ads, and many block ads entirely. A post from someone who actually builds things, saying what they tried and what they thought, reaches an audience that's very hard to reach any other way. That's why brands will pay for it even when your account is small. See People trust people, not ads.
Sponsorships vs X's own creator payouts
X runs its own creator revenue programs, with eligibility rules based on subscriptions, verified followers and impressions. Sponsorships are separate: a brand pays you directly for a specific post. For niche technical accounts, sponsorships usually don't need a large following, because the audience's fit matters more than its size.
What can I earn?
On Transformer, brands start from default follower tiers; you keep 80%:
| Followers | You earn per post |
|---|---|
| under 5k | $40 |
| 5k–25k | $100 |
| 25k–100k | $200 |
| 100k–500k | $500 |
Brands can pay more than the suggested price for a strong fit. See Sponsored post rates by follower count.
How to disclose correctly
Two things, every time:
- Say it's paid in the post:
#ad,#sponsoredor "paid partnership", where people will see it. In the US the FTC requires clear disclosure; vague tags like "sp" or "collab" aren't enough. - Turn on X's Paid Partnership label. Since March 2026, X's policy requires its built-in label on sponsored posts; switch it on in the composer's content disclosure settings (it can be added afterwards from the post menu).
Transformer checks for X's Paid partnership label before releasing payment; #ad in the text is a good idea for the FTC but optional for verification.
How to get offers on Transformer
- Sign in with X at https://transformer.gg/login. Transformer asks only for read access: it can't post for you or read your DMs.
- Fill in your profile: a headline, your niches, who follows you and, if you like, a rate card for posts, threads and videos. You can mark yourself open to offers, or hide your profile.
- Accept the offers that fit. Each one shows the brand, the ask (what to post about), the link and what you'll earn. Once you accept, the brand pays before you post, and the payment is held until your post is verified.
- Post in your own voice, with the link and X's Paid partnership label turned on (#ad too, if you like), then submit the post URL.
- Get paid: your 80% is credited when the post is verified; payouts are by PayPal or USDC, from $10. See How sponsorship payouts work.
Keep your audience's trust
- Only promote things you've actually tried.
- Say what you didn't like as well; a good ask allows it.
- Decline offers that don't fit your audience. Fewer, better sponsorships keep your recommendations worth something.
